Coronavirus Statement

As you are already aware, cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to rise across the country. College Chefs is committed to safely continuing service for chapters nationwide and is implementing a plan to bring awareness to both our staff and our members.

Stay up to date by reviewing information shared by your college/university and referring often to the Center for Disease Control. The World Health Organization (WHO) and CDC are two of the best resources to learn more about coronavirus, as well as how to prevent its spreading.

What is COVID-19?

  • The most recently discovered coronavirus causes coronavirus disease COVID-19. COVID-19 is a new disease, caused by a new coronavirus that has not previously been seen in humans.
  • Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

How does coronavirus spread?

  • Just like norovirus, the coronavirus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person through respiratory residue produced when a virus-carrying person coughs or sneezes.
  • It is unknown at this time, but still potentially possible for the virus to spread through touching an infected surface or object and then touching your own mouth, nose or eyes.

Can the Virus that causes COVID-19 spread through food?

  • Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets. Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food. Before preparing or eating food it is important to always wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds for general food safety.

What can you do?

  • Thorough hand washing.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.
  • Intentional respiratory etiquette.
    • Please be considerate of others and cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow.
  • Avoid touching your face, especially with unwashed hands.
  • Take care of your personal space.
    • Avoid reusing/sharing personal typically reusable items.
    • Clean your surfaces with a disinfectant wipe or spray.
  • Stay home when you are sick.

How do I take preventive action?

  • As usual, please have disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer available throughout your kitchen/dining area at all times.
  • Make sure that all paper products (tissues, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.) are fully stocked and include enough for two additional weeks before a reorder is needed.

What preventative actions are College Chefs Taking?

  • As always, we at College Chefs will continue to make cleanliness a priority in our kitchens and dining areas. We will go above and beyond in disinfecting all used surface areas in the coming weeks.
