Pride: College Chefs Celebrates People of All Identities

Today, on June 28, 2020 we commemorate the work of previous generations towards equality. Pride isn’t just a month-long celebration, but a continuous, conscious effort to create a better environment for all people, regardless of their sexual or gender identity.

College Chefs Mission of Love

Love who you love! We’ve rooted the entire concept of College Chefs in the expression of love. We express our love through making a homemade meal for others. We emphasize maintaining a healthy work schedule that allows for quality time with family and loved ones. We strive to create and maintain inclusive kitchen environments that welcome individuals across the entire spectrum of humanity.

The History of Pride Month

“Fifty-one years ago today, transgender women of color led the uprising at the Stonewall Inn in New York City” New York Times.

“In 1969, police raids on gay bars were routine[...] It was a time when LGBTQ people were treated like criminals and generally acquiesced to harassment” Daniel Trotta.

Stonewall Uprising

In the early hours of June 28, 1969, the Stonewall Riots erupted in response to a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, NYC. Every year, LGBTQ Pride events happen during the month of June to commemorate the collective uprising.

Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, both trans women of color, have been acknowledged for their influence on the community and their lifelong work of activism and organizing. While annual global Pride events have shifted and evolved since their involvement, we stand committed to moving forward towards a more inclusive global community.

Happy Pride from College Chefs!
